With an Expansion, Dental Office finds an Opportunity to Make Eco-friendly Choices

Naperville Dental Specialists and General Oral Healthcare (NDS) and Innovative Orthodontic Centers (IOC) have gone “green” for Earth Day! Located in the heart of downtown Naperville, NDS and IOC have been making environmentally friendly changes continuously since their grand opening two years ago. These changes include going paperless, using digital x-rays, tinted windows, eliminating water bottles and purchasing lead free x-ray aprons. They have become active members of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce Green Council as well as the Eco Dentistry Association. Their current expansion allows them a new opportunity to make low impact interior construction choices which follow the standards set by the Green Guide for Healthcare (GGHC) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) of the US Green Building Council. NDS and IOC believe a commitment to eco-friendly products and practices complements their high standard of patient care. A timely change as the US EPA announced on April 8th that by April 22, 2010 more than 125,000 renovation and remodeling contractors are to be trained in lead-safe work practices in accordance with the its Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule which will protect millions of children from lead poisoning.

“Our teams at NDS and IOC embody ‘going green dentistry’,” says NDS owner, Dr. Anthony LaVacca. “Taking care of our patients is the primary mission of our office. We feel taking care of the environment is a part of our responsibility for our children’s future – We want to provide a clean, safe office. We work very hard to provide the best dental care and to be on the cutting edge of dental technology. We want to help lead the industry toward being on the cutting edge of green technology too.”

As a part of the expansion, NDS and IOC have installed a dry suction dental system which they estimate will reduce their water use from 90,000 gallons per year to 18,000 gallons per year. The 1900 square foot addition will also include motion sensor lights, recycling, mercury free fillings, in house laundry, rechargeable batteries, hand gel sanitizer stations and an oil free dental compressor for their vacuums.

Naperville Dental Specialists and Innovative Orthodontic Centers provide a warm, modern ambience. They indulge patients with the comforts of home such as iPods with Bose noise cancelling headphones and warm neck wraps for adults as well as portable video and Nintendo for children.

Tours of our facility are available Wednesday, April 21st from 1:30-2:30pm. Our location is 55 South Main St Suite 241 in downtown Naperville. Convenient and free parking places are available across Main Street in the garage or across Van Buren in the lot. Please call Cindy Young if you have any questions about taking a tour 630-848-2010.
